2022 Green River Clean Up

We couldn’t have asked for more perfect weather for our favorite event of the year! The air was warm, the sky was blue, the water was cool to the touch and the scenery and wildlife was picturesque. Fish For Garbage teamed up with GROGA (Green River Outfitters & Guides Association) and other volunteers to either float down the river in various watercrafts or walk along the river trail.

Saturday morning volunteers were greeted in the boat prep area with donuts, snacks, swag and supplies for the clean-up. Throughout the day you could easily locate volunteers with their Fish for Garbage hats and trash bags, laughing and creating memories as they picked up everything from tiny wrappers, fly boxes, to a LARGE orange spherical visibility marker that fell from the sky! The trash grabbers provided made it easy picking for the icky and hard to reach trash. As we reached the end of our day, a herd of Bighorn sheep wished us well as we exited at the end of the “A” section at Little Hole. Thank you Flaming Gorge Resort for shuttling us back to our cars from Little Hole, before our celebratory night began.

After spending a fun and eventful day on the beautiful river, volunteers came together at our group campsites to enjoy BBQ, prize drawing, casting competition, and to try their luck at knocking down a pinata with a fish net.

The clean-up didn’t just end Saturday, rock-star volunteers the Wilson’s went back Sunday to pick up trash as well. Jess Wilson discovered a hidden treasure, a silver brick disguised as trash. Thank you Wesley and XpeditionUtah for the treasure, and to all our other sponsors, as well as our consistent volunteers and our first timers!
